Honey Fest San Diego 2012 a GROW Strong benefit event January 13-14, 2012 Prosperity Hive, Balboa Park Honeyfest San Diego is the region's first event celebrating the crucial role that bees play in sustainable food systems. The festival promotes awareness of the complex and vital relationship between bees and humans by exploring the benefits of bee products, the art of beekeeping, and the issues around environmental risks to bee populations. The festival offers three days of workshops, fine food, product-sampling, art and performance. Participation in Honeyfest SD supports the efforts of small-scale beekeepers in San Diego and Kenya.

Your participation in the 1st Honeyfest in San Diego will support Beekeepers in Bondo, Kenya establish a cooperative honey extraction and wax processing facility at GROW Strong's Kienyeji Learning Center in Bondo, Kenya.

Healthy, good food results in healthy people that create a thriving healthy community. Grow Strong is empowering community based organizations, local partners, and families to use local resources and traditional knowledge to revive local food security. 

Grow Strong works towards:

• Reviving self-sufficient, cooperative rural livelihoods free from poverty, hunger and disease.
• Sustainably producing food and useful crops by using local resources and traditional knowledge. 
• Promoting a nutritious locally grown diet sufficient for good health.
• Conserving biodiversity and reviving the natural and diverse ecosystems.

Grow Strong recognizes that communities that were once stable in providing food for themselves as well creating a surplus are facing chronic levels of hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. The mainstream approach to global food security has not helped and have in many ways exacerbated the problem!

We believe that many lasting solutions to poverty lie within these affected communities and their local resources and this is the first place to start. At Grow Strong we know that there are valuable lessons to be retaught and relearned from traditional wisdom and applying these lessons can provide effective solutions to the food insecurity situation.
